Your Wishes and Suggestions

And here is where you can add your own wishes and suggestions. I will look at them and move them onto the "To-Do" pile if I find a way to implement them

My suggestion. I see that there has been some work going on to implement JES3. Until recently, I looked after a couple of commercial JES3 systems and one of them ran a freeware Spool viewer product called SDF.( The other ran eJes as it's SDSF equivilant ) SDF is still available from http://www.cbttape.org/jes3down.htm and would make JES3 much easier to use for the unsuspecting novice! Cheers Mick..

Is this project still alive? Is Volker Bandke still alive? If yes to both, will we ever see Turnkey 4? - Thanks - John

Support for 7171 communications controller (connecting to a TCP socket). This would allow direct telnet with a terminal to emulate 3270's without running any particular 3270 emulator. We had one, and it was extremely handy.

He should be here. He didn't say for sure he'd come. And if he doesn't come? We'll come back tomorrow. And then the day after tomorrow. Possibly. And so on. The point is— Until he comes. -- Waiting For Godot #4

Might I suggest that per the fact that its been a very long time...that a beta tk4 be put out. If not that... maybe a pre-tk4 that would wet the appetities for many. Though its understandable...some of the tk4 was said to be in...while others till not yet. Why not put a 'workable' partial tk4-A1. People would replace it with the real tk4 when available.

Greetings! I have just learned that 2740 is a supported device type as an OS console; please add a pair of them to the IOGEN (as secondary consoles, of course). As an experiment I created an IOGEN (not really knowing what I'm doing - thanks Jay Moseley). We all know how fussy and finicky OS is about its consoles, but it appears that as long as they aren't defined to Hercules they'll come up OFFLINE and all is well. Here are the Stage I device definitons (this form may mangle) P2740A IODEVICE UNIT=2740,ADDRESS=009,TCU=2701,ADAPTER=IBM1,FEATURE=(CHECKING) P2740B IODEVICE UNIT=2740,ADDRESS=01F,TCU=2701,ADAPTER=IBM1,FEATURE=(CHECKING) CON009 CONSOLE SECONS=009,ALTCONS=01F,ROUTCDE=ALL,VALDCMD=(1,2,3) CON01F CONSOLE SECONS=01F,ALTCONS=009,ROUTCDE=ALL,VALDCMD=(1,2,3)

The value for VTAM parameter NPBUF is too low (IMHO), and should be increased, to at least 32 (if not 64). Also, would it be possible to add new SNA logmode table entries (to VTAM) for LU types LU1 and LU2? For background please see my www.lightlink.com/mhp/3705/ (select README file).

TK MVS rules!!! I would like to see: 1) Include in MVS nuc. IOGEN (?) the following new devices- - 2703 IBM type I and II (mostly for 2741) - 2703 Telegraph type I and II (WU and TTY) - at least two 3705's With all of the permutations (local/remote, dial/leased, etc.) this could lead to an explosion in the number of 2703 UCB's needed. It's also hard(er) to justify 2703 IBM II (IBM 1030) and 2703 TELE I (WU) as neither is supported by TSO (AFAIK), but they should be included nonetheless... If we included 16 2703 ports (four ea. IBM I/II and TELE I/II), all dial=yes, and 2 3705's, this would take up 32 CUA's - is there currently a CUA shortage? 2) Include a basic TCAM installation with a few 3270's plus a few TTY's (and 2741's). I would be happy to contribute any/all of these pieces (except: caveat: I don't know how to do an MVS IOGEN/SYSGEN)... for background see http://www.lightlink.com/mhp/2703/

1. allow lower case for the secret word. 2. better documentation on installing c3270, specifically how to find where to get the compiler. Ubuntu linux comes with no c compiler, and when I eventualy found how to install one, it seems to be the wrong one as the compile fails. I could not find how to get the "Sun" compiler on ubuntu, tn3270, turnkey, or hercules websites. Maybe I am missing it, but I could not find it. I also looked at sun.com, but I do seen to recall getting it once many years ago (for a sparc computer) and it was on a different site whose name escapes me now.

The install and other scripts need to be converted from /bin/bash to /bin/sh. Numerous systems, include FreeBSD and Solaris don't have bash by default, and there is no particular reason to require it aside from habit. -ahd-

It's implied by some other suggestions, but not explicitly mentioned - all 327x devices should have the PTREAD option on, and the last device on each controller should be a 3286 or 3287?

A howto doc on how to upgrade or integrate pre-installed turnkey system with new or newest cygwin builds would be very helpfull. Also a simple how-to doc on using linux s/390 with hercules, since that info is not readilly available and is very hard to find.

MVS conf file option CODEPAGE does not seem to currently work. This should be fixed. Also, CODEPAGE should not be limited to precompiled tables, but should allow an external, user-defined set of translation tables, ascii-to-ebcdic and ebcdic-to-ascii. This could either be in binary form (512 bytes) or in a more readable format, as time permits to implement.

Gen in page printer support, such as 3827's, and install Waterloo SCRIPT. Page printer support would also need to be added to Hercules. Hopefully having these items available on the Turnkey system would inspire the needed Hercules enhancement.

Increase SPOOL space and cleanup. If 3380-2 disk can be used, a few would be sufficient. Cleanup routines like http://www.cbttape.org/jes2down.htm file 136 would not work without adapting. A reply of "Do you want $PS1-9999, $PT1-9999, and $PJ1-9999" might work.
